The EDS multi-search engine enables searching the electronic information resources the CZU Library subscribes to. In addition, titles included in the CZU library catalogue can also be explored in EDS.
We begin the search by entering keywords into the search bar. The popular terms or publications available in the CZU Library will be offered automatically by typing the query.
EBSCO Discovery Service uses an algorithm for calculating relevance, the so-called Relevance Ranking, which ensures that the first displayed results correspond to the specified criteria as much as possible. It compares the match of the entered keywords with thematic terms of the keyword lists, with the title of the article, with the keywords of the author, and with keywords within the abstract or the full text.
If you wish to limit or expand your search before starting, select the link below the search bar – Search options.
For some search queries, here for the term "ecology“, EDS will offer a so-called Research Starter. It is the academic equivalent of an online encyclopedia dictionary. If the topic is available in Research Starters, it will appear in a box just above the first search results. To see a detailed description, click on the topic title.
The CZU Library has integrated the international thesaurus Agrovoc into the EDS. The thesaurus specializes in agriculture, forestry, environment, and related sciences. If the keyword you typed into the EDS search bar is in the thesaurus included, the "Agrovoc thesaurus" window will appear. By clicking "show," you can get other relevant terms for your search.
More information about the document can be obtained by clicking on the document’s title. If the full text is available, there is always a link to it under the basic information about the record. In case the search results include a print version of some title that is available in the Library, you can display the record by clicking on "view the record in the library catalogue.“ EDS can also offer a so-called Full-text finder in the search results list. This feature allows you to locate full text anywhere on the open web.
The filters on the left side allow for refining search results. They can be limited, for example, to full text, peer-reviewed, catalogue only, publication date, topic, publisher, document type, language, content source, etc.
Advanced search allows one to search in various fields (author, title, abstract) where the keyword is indexed. Up to 12 keywords can be combined and connected using the Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT.
The search results can be saved in a folder (anonymous or personalized)
1) Anonymous folder – When we finish our search in EDS, the saved documents are deleted.
2) Personalized folder – The folder is related to the email address and the search results can be saved.
